SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL shipped a marble statue of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from Austria to Kuba. The statue was a gift from Salzburg to the people of Kuba and is now situated on a square in Havana. We are happy that this piece of artwork was transported in a professional way so that Mozart is without a scratch in his new loacation

The Bezirksmuseum Alsergrund (local museum of the 9th district of Vienna) organises a retrospective to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Gerda Svarny, native Viennese, living in London since 1938. Mrs. Martina Malyar, head of the Municipal District Office, will open the exhibition on Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 at 6.30 pm in the festival room of the Municipal District Office, in the presence of Gerda Svarny. Gerda Svarny, born in Vienna in December 1927, spent a part of her childhood in Vienna's 9th district, Alsergrund. In 1938, her family had to flee to Czechoslovakia and in 1939 she reached England by means of a children's transport. Since that time, Gerda Svarny is living and working in England. "We are happy that we succeeded in organising a representative exhibition of Gerda Svarny's art work in Vienna.", said Dr. Wilhelm Urbanek, head of the museum. "It is for the first time that she exhibits in Vienna." The exhibition can be visited until December 19th, 2007. Sobolak International contributed to the success of this retrospective by transporting the exhibits free of charge. During this year's one convention in Paris SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL received the overall "quality award" for their excellent services in moving and relocation. Niall Mackay, Chairman of one-group handed over the award to our Managing Director Hannes Lager who dedicated the award to all Sobolak staff during his speech. We are all proud that high quality services are also rewarded within our industry and this enforces our ongoing investments in innovation and staff training.

On Saturday, 26th of May we celebrated at the premises of SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL a blessing for our new trucks. Brother Adam, the priest from Leobendorf was invited by Peter Sobolak and it was a grand blessing of our new two European-trucks and the three city-trucks. In a short ceremony brother Adam requested gods blessing for the trucks and for all presented employees, relatives and friends. After the grand ceremony we had a comfortable lunch all together. We wish us and all our clients and friends many accident-free kilometres on the roads around the world.

SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL has outgrown its facilities. Therefore, we had to enlarge our office space within the existing site. Two new rooms and a new meeting room have been erected and we took the opportunity to re-paint our existing rooms and the corridor. This enables us to service our clients even better now!

In order to broaden our staff’s depth of knowledge we had fire extinguisher training. After 30 minutes of theoretical training we all had the opportunity for some field trials. We were allowed to use various extinguishers for different emergencies. The interest in this training was so overwhelming, it took all day long. Although we now feel confident, we all hope that we will never have to use our new skills.

Our staff had the opportunity to check their health within workplace health promotion. Inside the UNIQA-truck there is all the necessary equipment needed by the experts to establish a fitness profile which covers: documentation of existing risk factors and pre-existing diseases, look up of physical condition, motility and coordination; measurement of body fat, back-check, computer-assisted examination of the spinal column and resting ECG. Finally, every participant had a counselling interview with one of the vital coaches, taking into consideration the individual test result, existing risk factors and pre-existing diseases. The vital coach provided everyone with practical tips easy to follow up.

We are experts in moving household effects by land, sea and air. However, recently we had to carry out a very unusual move. In December 2006 SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL has carried out a European move from Venice to Vienna with our own staff and equipment. In order to bring packing material to the client’s residence and to collect the consignment we had to charter a transport ship named “Vaporetto” After loading all precious household goods, our staff could finally start carrying out the transportation of the effects to Vienna.

The fourth one-convention took place at the Hilton Hotel, from 21 to 24 September. Interesting topics involving sales, relocation and market trends were covered during the seminars and role-plays held by experts from the one-partners. One of the highlights of the event was the speech of Eric Lim, president of FIDI (www.fidi.com) and Chairman of Aisan Tigers-KC Dat. The convention achieved its goal of reinforcing the one-culture. The attendees where able to strengthen relationship whilst exchanging experience and having fun.

We at SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL aim to achieve flexibility for our customers. This is the reason why we have acquired a car transport trailer. With it, we can pick up cars and motorbikes (thanks to a special device) from the remotest parts of Austria. Consequently, we do not have to rely on subcontractors any more. From now on we can pick up vehicles with a total weight of up to 2,150 kilograms and bring them to our site, even if the vehicle is not roadworthy. Some details for technically interested persons: Our aluminium transport trailer has a net weight of 550 kilograms, is 6.95 meters long, 2.02 meters broad and 0.85 meters high. Due to the small double tyres, the ramp angle only amounts to 8 degrees, which also allows the transport of sporty vehicles.

In order to renovate the so called “Urbanikeller” SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL was asked by Atelier Czech to relocate the most precious antiques such as figures, lamps, vases and paintings. The cellar which was erected in the middle ages is in danger of collapsing, so the SOBOLAK movers rescued all these items. History about the building: Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt (1668–1745) designed the baroque facade and since then this house is under preservation order. The “Urbanikeller” was constructed in 1905 and also Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlando was involved in this venture. In this beautiful building there are a lot of imaginative figures; a lamp with a dragon decorates the old wall, a lot of paintings, big and heavy wooden chandeliers, etc. The seats consist of dark timber, engraved with many wood carvings. Recapitulating we could say that this was a new experience and a challenge for us to wrap and pack such old things while gathering some information about the popular location.

On Tuesday, 21st june 2005, we - the class no. 3b of the commercial college at Korneuburg - visited the moving company Sobolak International GmbH, situated in Leobendorf. We were accompanied by our class teacher, Mrs. Ursula Loidolt. Mr. Reinhold Karpisek (executive) and Mr. Andreas Eibel (sales) presented the company to us. Sobolak International focusses on the organisation of worldwide moves. We had the possibility to look over one of Sobolak's modern moving trucks. Furthermore, we were shown how to pack removal goods and how a forklift transports containers. Finally, we were invited for a buffet. After 45 years in the moving industry and 25 years with Sobolak International, there will be a serious change in Harry Benedikt’s life. Harry Benedikt will retire on 01st march 2005, hoping to find time enough for all the things he could not do during his busy working life. He was born in Vienna. After school, he joined a big Austrian Forwarding company where he worked in the moving department for a total of 18 years. For the last 3 out of these 18 years, he was the manager of this department. 1970 he married his wife Christa andin 1984 they were able to build their own house in Vienna. In 1980, Harry changed to Sobolak International because he and Peter Sobolak have beend friends for a very long time. At this time, the company had 7 employees and disposed of 2 moving trucks. Today Sobolak has 80 employees and 18 moving trucks. Harry’s job always was sales as well as taking care of the internal activities. During 30 years, Harry was board member of the ÖMTV (Austrian Moving Association) and from 1996 – 2002 je was vice president of this organisation. He also attended lots of FIDI , LACMA and HHGFAA conventions. Harry is leaving the company in the position as the second managing director. It is only for a short time that Austrian laws have allowed lay rescuers to work with AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). These devices can recognize ventricular fibrillation, also known as SCA (Sudden cardiac arrest ). So Austria is one of the first european countries where this modern method of first aid can be used as a support to the EMS (Emergency Medical Services). SOBOLAK INTERNATIONAL has decided to purchase an AED and to train some of our staff including our trained first responders. Chances are very good for successful livesaving treatment in case of SCA: first studies made in the USA lead to the assumption that the use of AEDs can increase the chance to survive a SCA by 40%. If SCA is present, an AED will advise, and will talk the responder through some very simple steps to defibrillate. As this is done automatically, you cannot hurt someone with an AED. There are two things to remember. First, a victim of SCA is essentially dead. Early defibrillation represents that person’s only chance for survival. Second, AEDs will not shock someone who does not need to be shocked. It’s that simple.

We did another step torwards better customer service: for meeting the requirements of time and of our customers we bought another short distance truck with a loading capacity of 7,5 tons. This truck enables us to move our clients even on Sundays and holidays as this truck type is not affected by the increasing number of traffic bans on lorries.

For keeping our long-haul fleet modern and eco friendly, Sobolak has bought a new truck which meets the latest emission limits (Euro 3 motor) and fulfils the provisions of the EU concerning noise reduction . Furthermore, it is equiped with swap-bodies , air suspension and a tail-lift.

Sobolak proudly announces that Cap Gemini Ernst & Young has certified our company in June 2003 as FAIM-ISO compliant. FAIM-ISO is worldwide considered to be the highest level of quality management for international movers. To achieve this certificate, a company first has to earn ISO and then become FAIM certified. Moreover, a FAIM-ISO certified company has to fulfill much higher standards than a FAIM certified.

SOBOLAK has performed a fire drill in association with the local fire brigade to train our warehouse and office staff for an event of fire. This fire drill will be conducted every two years to train how to take counter-measures in a case of emergency.

The main aim to do these drills is not only the protection of our personnel, but your goods in storage. It is obvious that also our fire alarm system has to be tested, as a case of fire can not be foreseen. We hope that these fire practices will never turn into reality but if they do - we are prepared!

Exclusively for our clients, the well-known cartoonist Erich Eibl has designed felicitous hand drawings around a removal with Sobolak International. For this purpose, our clients’ and employees’ everyday experiences of removals represented a model.

Sobolak International has displayed itself in a new design since October 2002. The appearance of our Corporate Identity is being changed ranging from packing material, our modern truck fleet, stationery to our popular ball-point pens. The only thing that does not change is a permanent enhancement of our services which will continue to guarantee the best possible accomplishment of your removal.

Not only passers-by are astonished by our new outside elevator. A lifting capacity of 300 kg and an extension up to 25 metres are enabling a quick transport of our customer’s goods. A couch can be lifted to the 5th floor in about two minutes to either speed up your moves or if access is bad.
